Winners revealed at luncheon in Mayfair London
November 20, 2013 1pm. The Start Your Business Award winners were announced today at the Gambit Interactive Media Headquarters in Mayfair, London. The event was hosted by Editor, Marcus Green who was accompanied by an esteemed judging panel that included a combination of our best writers, readers, and entrepreneurs. The event, now in its ninth year, celebrated the significant contributions made by service providers to small businesses in the UK during the past year.
Start Your Business conducted a reader survey across Britain, short listed by a panel of experts and leading business professionals, that included their Editor Marcus Green.
Green stated, “The finalists for each category can be distinguished from other service providers in the industry from the impeccable customer-focussed attitude, innovative approaches and consistency in effort, that they all share”.
Winners of the 15 categories included Best Small Business IT Solutions Provider, received by Dell Computers, Best Small Business Bank, received by RBS, Best Small Business Service received byPenelope, and Best Small Business Payment Provider, received by Allied Wallet. CEO and Founder of Allied Wallet, Andy Khawaja said, “We are absolutely delighted to receive an award of excellence from Start Your Business magazine. Winners of the categories included 1and1 Internet, who received the Best Web Hosting Provider award for the third consecutive year. While presenting the award to their CEO Robert Hoffmann, Founder of Start Your Business magazine Zia Mallick said, “Small business service providers are often the hidden resource of a new start-up; the solutions that they provide are valuable elements, and can often make all the difference between a business succeeding or failing. Their contribution often goes unrecognised, but these awards celebrate the very best of small business service providers and highlights their role in supporting British businesses, something here at Start Your Business, we think is very important”.
The coveted Entrepreneur of the Year title was awarded to James Caan, Chairman of Private Equity firm Hamilton Bradshaw. Aside from his many accomplishments in business, he was recently appointed Chair of the Government backed Start Up Loans scheme. Under the stewardship of James Caan, the funding programme has assisted nearly 10,000 businesses and lent over £50,000,000, exceeding all expectations.
The Life Time Achievement Award was given to an individual that has dedicated his career to promoting the standards for business support and the prospects of SMEs in the UK; Tony Robinson OBE was the founder of the Small Firms Development Initiative (SFEDI). He has since formed Enterprise Rockers a national movement of business networks encouraging collaboration and joint purchasing initiatives amongst the small business community.
