Government Announces New rules to help home businesses

Last week, enterprise minister Matthew Hancock launched the new Home Business initiative, making it easier for people to start businesses from home.

Nick Birtwistle, Small Business and SME director at Vodafone UK and one of its customers Antony Worsley, Managing Director, ANYCommunications, comment on the true value of communications to a home business…

“Home businesses currently contribute around £234 billion to the UK economy according to Enterprise Nation, and with 70% of UK businesses starting at home, they have massive potential to drive more growth longer term,” said Nick Birtwistle, Small Business and SME director at Vodafone UK. “Start-ups begin with limited resources, small numbers of staff and tight budgets, but they still need to operate like any other established business. With customers having increasingly high expectations in terms of responsiveness, communications is one of the biggest and most important elements to a new business.

“Businesses don’t need to invest in expensive communications systems to get set up. With the mobile internet offering superfast mobile connectivity, businesses can now get started cheaply and quickly from anywhere – including in an entrepreneur’s own home.  With Vodafone’s One Net Express, mobiles become virtual landlines, meaning home businesses and start-ups are able to give the perception of being an established, larger business without the investment in expensive office space. Employees can pick up both mobile and landline calls and voicemails from anywhere on their mobiles, making a business able to respond on demand, around the clock to be able to compete with larger counterparts and establish themselves in the market place. As the business grows, multiple mobile numbers can be connected together in a hunt group, and more ‘virtual’ landline numbers can be added – all without having to invest in offices in new areas.”
