Top ten and award winning firm of certified accountants and bookkeepers, Braant Bookkeeping and Accounting, has welcomed the news that entrepreneurs will be given more freedom to start and grow home-based businesses.
It follows an announcement by The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills about a series of new measures that are designed to encourage self-made businesspeople to set up enterprises from their homes.
Among the most notable proposals outlined by the government is that residential tenancy agreements should not be affected by home businesses in rented homes. They also want to make it clearer that planning permission is not normally needed for home businesses and that business rates will not usually apply to home-based enterprises.
New legislation and a new model tenancy agreement will be produced to simplify the process for landlords and tenants in rental properties. The Business Minister, Matthew Hancock, revealed the proposed measures at the first Home Business Summit, organised by small business network Enterprise Nation.
The news is undoubtedly a positive development for home-based businesses, which contribute £300 billion per year to the economy. The home is also the environment where the majority of new businesses start, with the figure already standing at around 70%.
Leading accountancy and bookkeeping firm, Braant, has backed the government’s announcement and insisted it will encourage more people to consider setting up businesses from home.
A spokesman for the company said: ‘We fully support these measures and believe it will give more aspiring entrepreneurs the confidence to run a business from home.
‘The home is already the starting point for more than two-thirds of new businesses, so it shows how innovative and resourceful businesspeople are. Anything that can help to make the process even easier can only be a good thing,’ he added.
