How To Ensure You Look After Your Employees Welfare

Looking after your employees is important as a business as you want to ensure that you have a happy workforce that feels supported and encouraged. Not prioritising their welfare or concerns can lead to low levels of productivity and more time off work as they will feel underappreciated. Ultimately it is in your interest to keep your staff content, as it will be beneficial for your business to remain productive.

Providing Support

Given that the pandemic has created a lot of uncertainty and stress for many, it is imperative to have a mental welfare program to ensure your staff are not having to deal with stress and low mood alone. When Careerbuilder conducted a survey, they found that at least 31% of employees felt exhausted from their jobs. This then caused them to have feelings of anxiety, depression, fatigue and more likely to put on weight, which are all negative attributes.

Low mood and depression can affect employees morale at work and being able to fulfill their role to the best of their ability. Having a mental welfare program within the workplace will encourage your staff to openly have conversations when they feel able to. This would prevent them from not attending work due to feeling embarrassed in front of other colleagues.

Separating Work From Personal Life

Certain roles in your business such as IT support, staff that travel frequently, or Sales Managers who are in contact with clients might require a work mobile. Shopping around for the best Samsung contracts will enable you to bulk buy the required smartphones that you need in advance. The benefits of supplying workphones to your employees enables them to take calls, write up and edit documents when they are on the move, without having to use their personal smartphones for business. This allows them to separate their work tasks from their personal life.

Team Activities

Fitness and undertaking group sport activities will encourage your staff to exercise, which is certainly beneficial to alleviate low mood. It will allow your employees to exercise during the working day, which they might not necessarily have the opportunity to do in their free time. Researchers at Loughborough’s School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences discovered that team sports within the workplace had significant benefits. It encouraged more productivity, reduced sickness costs and strengthened relationships amongst colleagues.

Returning to a ‘Normal’ Worklife

Ensuring you have all the necessary health and safety measures in place and outlining a plan for staff will gradually ease them back into a more normal worklife setting. A lot of people might have reservations about returning immediately, so allowing them to perhaps partly work from home and work several days a week in the office will demonstrate that you are supportive of their concerns, but still ensuring that work tasks are completed. Essentially a happy workplace equates to a more productive one.
