New research into career change interests has identified the most popular job roles and sectors that British workers would like to switch to in 2025.

The study, conducted by IT training provider tecnovy Academy, analysed Google search data from the past year for terms such as “training near me” and “courses,” covering nearly 700 careers.

The average monthly search volume relating to each career was calculated to produce the ranking. Each role was also grouped by industry to rank the most popular sectors workers are moving into in 2025.

Dog grooming is the most desirable career in the UK, as 19,272 searches were made per month for training courses or job opportunities.

In second place is project management, with 19,218 Brits seeking the necessary training courses each month.

Training to be an electrician is on the to-do list for 18,858 workers every month, landing the role in third place.

In fourth place is teaching. On average, 17,398 Brits search for training courses in their local area every month.

Phlebotomist training racked up the fifth-highest number of searches. An impressive 15,053 people search for training courses each month.

In sixth place is digital marketing, which piques the curiosity of 13,126 people in the UK every month.

Counselling is in seventh place. Each month, 12,671 people in the UK search for the necessary qualifications and training to become a certified counsellor.

In eighth place is personal training. On average, 12,323 people express an interest in becoming a personal trainer each month.

Around 11,878 people search for classroom assistant training in the UK each month, making education one of the most popular industries for career-changers in 2025.

In tenth place is plumbing. An average of 11,651 people seek the right qualifications for becoming a plumber every month in the UK.

The study also ranked the most popular industries to move into in 2025, finding ‘sports and fitness’ takes the top spot. Nursing, administration, construction and working with animals all ranked highly.

Ertul Topuzoglu, CEO of tecnovy Academy, commented on the findings:

“A lot of the roles in this ranking are self-employed or involve working alone, allowing employees more control over their working hours, which suggests that this is something employees are lacking in their current roles.

“Dog grooming is a fascinating result for the most desirable career change in the UK. Despite being one of the lower-paid jobs on the list, the ranking suggests that workers are willing to learn new skills to pursue a career they will find emotionally rewarding.

“The study also revealed that retail and customer service roles are falling in popularity, in favour of more personal care-giving roles like counsellors and classroom assistants.

“All of these roles require qualifications and skill sets which must be taught, and it is exciting to see such a high number of Brits are searching for the right training for their sought-after career each month.”
