Which Functions Should Your Business Be Outsourcing?

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses across the globe are trying to figure out how to save money and cut costs. Unfortunately, as of September 2020, 60% of small businesses in the U.S. that closed due to COVID-19 have decided to shutter permanently. Others are sure to follow if things don’t change soon.

We’ve talked before about how outsourcing can help your small business to save money, especially in the uncertain times we’re dealing with now.

But, which functions should you be outsourcing? How can you know which jobs should be done in-house and which ones would better serve you by hiring a contractor?

Let’s take a look at a few of the most common functions that you should be outsourcing to save money. In doing so, you may be better able to survive the rest of this pandemic.

Accounting

Chances are, you didn’t get into the business world because you were a financial expert. Unfortunately, hiring a team to take care of your accounting can end up costing a lot of money. Accounting is one of the most popular outsourcing functions for a business. It’s easy to work with an accounting company or a freelancer who can manage all of your expenses, take charge of your business budget, and put together your taxes.

IT and Machinery

In today’s tech-heavy world, it’s important to have someone on board that knows how to handle networks, computers, and other machinery that your business might be dealing with. If you work with electronics, you may even consider hiring a calibration service for your equipment.

The last thing any business can afford is for a piece of equipment to malfunction or for your network data to be compromised. Make sure you are a forward-thinking company when it comes to tech and electronics, and hire out a team with experience.

Marketing

Every business owner knows the importance of advertising what they do. But, unless you start to build a brand for yourself and have knowledge in digital marketing, you could be missing out.

Hiring a full-fledged marketing team for your business will be costly. Plus, you will have to create a separate marketing budget on top of paying those employees. By hiring a marketing company to take care of your branding, you only pay for the services you receive. Plus, most marketers take the time to get to know your business, and can create multiple campaigns for you on a contract basis.

Administrative Tasks

Virtual assistants are becoming more popular than ever, for small businesses and large corporations. Hiring a personal assistant or even a secretary for your business can be expensive. But, virtual assistants are typically relatively cheap to hire, and you can use them on an as-needed basis, paying them for only a few hours of work each day.

This is really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to which functions can be successfully outsourced. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your business and your budget. Outsourcing can save your company money and help you to stay afloat long past the effects of this pandemic.
