What You Need to Do

Many of us dream of opening restaurants. We want to have a place that we can call our own, where people can eat delicious food, drink and socialise. But if setting up your own restaurant, cafe or bar is your goal, chances are you’ve been put on hold by the coronavirus and Covid-19 pandemic. This pandemic has wrought chaos across the world and has impacted all sorts of areas of life. One industry that has been particularly hard hit is the hospitality industry and many restaurants have been forced to close their doors on and off for the past year and a half. Now that vaccines are being offered and life seems set on track to get back to normal, many of us are now considering getting our dreams back on track and going for it. If this applies to you, here are a few steps you’ll need to take to experience success.

Consider Timing

The pandemic has seen countless changes, forwards and backwards, over the past year and a half. Sure, things may seem full steam ahead, but you may want to hold back a little before actually renting a place out and opening up the doors. You don’t want to tie yourself into a commercial premises lease, only to find that cases to skyrocket and social isolation measures are put back into place with restaurants having to close their doors again. Biding your time here could be useful. Instead, start planning what you’re going to do rather than diving in the deep end. Then, when things are more stable, you can put your plans into place with less risk!

Invest in the Right Equipment and Furniture

You’ll find that you need all sorts of equipment to run an effective restaurant – from a business and a service perspective. Just think of all the appliances, tools and other bits and bobs you’ll need for your kitchen. You will need to invest in furniture and decoration for the front of the house. You’ll need practical elements like till points. You may need refrigerated van conversions to get fresh produce from the market to the kitchen in best condition. Factor in all of these costs to determine how much investment this venture might require.

Coming Up With a Menu

Sure, people will head to a place for a good atmosphere. But your menu will be key as to whether they return or not. You need to make sure that your menu caters to multiple people’s needs and tastes – including gluten free options, vegetarian options and vegan options – while maintaining quality. Your head chef should be able to take care of this, but you may want some input to ensure that everything falls in line with your vision for the restaurant.

Sure, there are many other steps you’re going to need to take, and many other things you’re going to need to take into consideration, to start up a successful restaurant. But the above guidance should help you to get your venture started out in the right direction!
