Avoiding Tech Issues When Working From Home

Working from home may sound like a luxury. The liberty to prepare one’s own meal. There will be time for doing laundry in between tasks. A break from that talkative coworker is in order.

Then one is confronted with reality. Your computer mouse is a piece of crap, your Wi-Fi connection moves at a snail’s pace, and the new software tools you are working with are difficult to understand. Without an I.T. department, you are on your own with your tech problems.

Unreliable internet connections, poor-quality video conversations, software applications that are too narrowly designed, and uncomfortable work stations are some of the most typical technology-related obstacles that we face when we work from home. These obstacles all reduce our overall productivity.

Do not be concerned, young new remote workers. You are able to limit the amount of technical issues you face, which allows you to reach a kind of utopia in terms of working from home. And if you talk to others who have experience working remotely, you will find that there are simple lessons and solutions to implement that will be of assistance to you during the time that you spend working from home.

The most important of these is to have fewer things overall, notably electronic devices and programmes for work. This idea has the potential to direct us toward a more straightforward and less frustrating arrangement that will allow us to collaborate effectively with our coworkers.

Here’s how to make working from home a breeze.

Internet connectivity

First things first, let us solve the most pressing technological issue at home, which is internet connectivity. When compared to the lightning-fast broadband connections in our workplaces, the internet speeds in our homes are likely to be much slower, and our Wi-Fi connections may be less reliable.

Consequently, the present moment is an excellent opportunity to evaluate your infrastructure.

In the event that your Wi-Fi signal is unreliable, which means that it is strong in one room but weak in another, is to make an investment in a so-called mesh Wi-Fi system, such as Google Wifi and Amazon Eero. Because of this, it is possible to link many wireless access points to one another and create a robust internet connection across your home.

If the speeds of your internet connection seem to be on the slow side, upgrading to a current Wi-Fi system that offers compatibility for the most recent wireless standards, such as the ones indicated above, could be of assistance. If, despite upgrading your networking equipment, you continue to have slow speeds, however, you may need to get in touch with your internet service provider to inquire about other solutions. It is possible that some internet service providers will charge more for their faster broadband connections.

Computer problems

When you are working on something essential on your computer and it starts to run slowly, it can be really aggravating. There are a lot of things that may go wrong with your computer that could cause it to become unresponsive or crash, such as malicious malware, a hard drive that is failing, or having too many apps open at once.

You are in luck since there are a few things you can do to attempt to remedy the problem before buying a IBM refurbished, and they are as follows:

  • You should restart your computer
  • You should keep both your operating system and your drivers up to date.
  • Perform a search for malicious software and viruses.
  • Delete all of the programmes that are not necessary.
  • Check that the programme you are using has minimum system requirements that can be met by your personal computer.
  • Disable any programmes that are not necessary and start running automatically whenever your computer is turned on.

You might be tempted to use your personal computer for business activities now that you are working from home, but you should resist the urge. However, in order to prevent any potential conflicts between personal and professional information, it is essential to have a separate computer that is used solely for business. This not only makes things simpler, but it also makes it easier to keep your computer at work organised and free of any extraneous programmes that could cause it to run more slowly.

Printer issues

If you are someone who relies on a printer to fulfil the chores at work, you are aware of how frustrating it can be when the printer is not functioning properly. Some printer problems you can face include unavailable printer drivers, connectivity issues, and paper jams.

Check that your printer is turned on and that it is correctly connected to your computer before attempting to troubleshoot it. Once you have confirmed that, you should then attempt to restart both your computer and printer and then update the drivers for your printer.

For paper jam issues, turn off your printer and switch it back on a few minutes later. There are situations when doing so can rectify the situation. In the event that it does not operate, you will need to turn it off once again, unplug it, and open it in order to gently remove any paper that has become clogged.

Audio and visual problems

Because it is so straightforward to maintain communication with the rest of the team while utilising videoconferencing tools like Zoom, working remotely has become synonymous with using these kinds of tools. However, you should have yourself ready to handle frequent Zoom call issues, such as audio problems, connection issues, and echo, before you start making calls using the software. At other times, the software may be so unstable that it makes it difficult for you to either host or attend a meeting because it keeps crashing and freezing.

If you are having problems with the sound on your computer, check the settings for the audio on your computer and make sure both the microphone and the speaker are turned on. You should also consider purchasing a noise-cancelling headset of high quality in order to participate in video conference calls.
