How To Upgrade Your Home Office

One of the best things about living in the modern age is being able to work from home and build a successful, long-term career or business. But if you’re like a lot of people who spend most of their time working from home, it’s important to keep your work and personal life separate in your home. Here are some tips for making a better home office to help you find a better balance between work and life.

Get A Back Cushion

You don’t need an expensive ergonomic office chair at home (unless you want one, of course) because a simple back pillow can make any regular chair more comfortable. Look for a cheap curved cushion for your office chair, or use something you already have at home, like a rolled-up towel, to save a few dollars.

Make A Screen

Ideally, your home office should be a completely separate space from anywhere else in the house, and the best way to make sure this happens is to find a room to dedicate to it. However, in some cases, this room won’t be available, and if that’s the case, you’ll need to screen off your office area from everything else.

Using a sheet of Perspex cut to size, you can create an ideal barrier between you and the rest of the house, ensuring you can be more productive and efficient no matter how else is at home with you.

Raise Your Computer

When you look at your computer, the top of the screen should be about where your eyes are. Most of the time, the monitor or screen is too low. That’s how you end up slouching or craning your neck. There are two easy ways to fix this.

If you have a monitor or desktop computer in your home office, you can raise it to a comfortable height by putting a few books under the base.

With a laptop, you need a laptop stand (also called a riser) and a keyboard and mouse that are separate from the laptop. The stand should also tilt and add a few inches of height. Don’t try to type on a laptop’s keyboard while it’s on a stand because you could hurt your wrists or shoulders.

Make The Most Of Your Storage

Having a clean and organized space can make you feel more fulfilled, productive, and happy. One of the easiest ways to keep your space clean and organized is to store as much as you can. Go through your desk drawers and cabinets and throw away anything that doesn’t have to do with work. Next, go through the things you do have and give them a place to go (preferably with like items). Using hidden storage solutions to keep things out of sight should do the trick.

Keep Your Cables Tidy

A mess of cables looks bad and is annoying. But that’s what happens when we have many different pieces of equipment, from a laptop to a printer, as well as chargers, in a home office that needs power.

Getting a handle on your cables can make a big difference in how your workspace looks and how well it works. Set aside some time to unplug everything and untangle the cables. You can also get a few cheap items to help organize the cables, such as Velcro and zip ties.
