With skilled trade demand soaring, it’s no wonder that more and more people are looking into trade school rather than university for their further education. It’s generally understood you don’t need a fancy MBA or disruptive product idea to become a successful entrepreneur. If you don’t want to deal with all that corporate nonsense like meetings or using synergy unironically, consider these five benefits of starting a trade business.

Contents
  • Flexibility
  • Progress and Growth
  • Lots of Earnings Early
  • Widespread Support
  • Generational Opportunities
  • Trade

Flexibility

While it can feel like you work longer or stranger hours, a tradesperson’s work-life balance is often more manageable than those who spend most of their time in the boardroom. You’re self-employed so you can take as much time off as you like, but remember that you don’t get sick or vacation pay. Still, if you make up most of your hours by working a little longer on weekdays or even taking advantage of time-and-a-half on weekends, you can find the perfect balance.

Progress and Growth

People who work in a trade also have more chance of progress and growth. The natural progression from apprentice to senior tradesperson and even partner is often much easier compared to office-based professions where you may have senior management who won’t quit or retire soon. If you prove yourself competent, you can see your earning opportunities grow or even start your own business.

Lots of Earnings Early

It can take years for graduates to make the kind of money that makes them comfortable, but tradies can enjoy plenty of earnings much earlier. These earnings typically come after graduating from an apprentice as they are on a different pay scale. If you want to earn as much money as possible as quickly as you can, trades could be the answer.

Widespread Support

No matter what trade you choose, there is always widespread support. This support doesn’t just come from complementary experts like tool suppliers or companies specializing in welder repairs but also from the public. Unlike other products or services, you can always expect some work, particularly if your trade is essential year-round, such as a plumber or electrician, rather than seasonal trades like landscaping. With this, you can also rely on regular interest to help your company grow.

Generational Opportunities

Many entrepreneurs launch their companies because they want to set their kids and future generations up as well as possible. The same applies to tradespeople. Once they get old enough, you can encourage them to get into the industry by teaching your kids a great work ethic through the occasional shifts or shadowing. Since many trades will always be in demand, you are securing their future just as much as you’re securing your own, giving them everything they need to live as comfortably as you.

Trade

Trade school offers an array of benefits and gives you the chance to learn from the best before starting your own business. This is a great chance for those who don’t want to wear a suit or be grouped with the likes of Zuckerberg and Musk to excel and prove there’s more than one way to make the big bucks.
