A telecoms expert is calling on business owners to re-think their internet connections
Juliet Moran from TelephoneSystems.Cloud says relying on Wi-Fi is simply not effective enough when it comes to keeping employees online.
While many companies rely on Wi-Fi connections to keep their employees active during their working hours, using Ethernet cables would actually provide more stable and secure internet connections.
Although W-iFi offers convenience and a level of mobility, having a reliable internet connection is crucial for business owners.
Telecoms expert Juliet Moran said: “For too long, businesses have relied on wireless connections to keep their employees online and their business running smoothly.
“We often get calls from business owners wondering why everything is down and what we can do to help. It is frustrating to know how many business owners aren’t making the right choices when it comes to connection. Simply changing over to a wired connection could make all the difference.
“Wired connections are much more straightforward to fix if there is ever a problem, and the source of the problem is much easier to find than with Wi-Fi issues. Also, installing wired connections for your business gives you enhanced security, speeds and stability.”
Here are some benefits of wired vs Wi-Fi connections, from TelephoneSystems.Cloud:
- Security
It is much harder for unauthorised users to access a wired network, making confidential business data transmission more secure. Wired connections are inherently more secure as the physical connections are much harder to access, while Wi-Fi signals can be intercepted, making them much more vulnerable.
- Trouble shooting
Wired connections are often more straightforward to troubleshoot than wireless connections. Checking cables, restarting the router, checking the port or using a network troubleshooter could all help fix issues quickly and efficiently.
- Speed
Businesses transferring large data files across the network may be better using wired connections and will benefit from faster speeds. Although Wi-Fi is getting faster all the time, it is extremely vulnerable to interference and distance, so businesses rarely get the speeds they expect.
- Stability
For most businesses, Ethernet cables provide the fastest and most stable connection, making it the more reliable choice. Because the data is delivered through the cable, as long as you are plugged in and have power on you should have no issues.
